What I learned from soap operas

TED@UPS asks: What if life and business lessons were learned from soap operas?

Plunging over waterfalls. Surviving epic cat fights. Even coming back from the “dead.” What happens to characters on soap operas can seem exaggerated and melodramatic, but Kate Adams believes there is a lot we can learn from these larger-than-life stories that can be applied to our own lives.

As long as there is breath in your body, it’s never too late to change your story.

Kate has been a soap opera fan since childhood, and she spent eight years as the assistant casting director for “As the World Turns.”

In her TED@UPS talk, Kate explores the four main lessons she’s learned from her favorite soaps—like adapting to change and never giving up—that she feels we all can apply to our everyday dramas.

Drawing on real-life examples, from the CEO of Starbucks to Julia Child to herself, Kate shows what happens when people put these compelling ideas into action.
