The positive effects of trade
TED@UPS asks: What if global trade were embraced as a humanitarian tool?
When economies are cut off and people feel hopeless, countries can experience terrible conditions such as extreme poverty, crime, human trafficking, even terrorism. Romaine Seguin sees trade as the most powerful humanitarian weapon to combat such conditions.
International trade is the most impactful strategy to bring millions out of poverty.
Throughout her career in global logistics, Romaine has lived and worked around the world. She has personally assisted trade efforts in at least 46 countries.
In her TED@UPS talk, Romaine asserts that while many different strategies have been employed over the years to help those trapped by poverty, discrimination and violence, international trade is indeed the most impactful.
She shows how increasing global trade has helped countries like China, Colombia and Haiti improve their economies and security, while providing more hopeful and productive lives for their people.
